Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic

The early stages of pregnancy can be a worrying

time. If you are concerned about anything, you may want to seek out specialist care and reassurance

T

he Wells Suite Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic is suitable for women within six to eight weeks of pregnancy. You do not need

a GP referral or to have seen your GP prior to attending. The regular clinic is led by consultant gynaecologist Miss Shazia Nazir on Thursday mornings, though other appointment times (including evenings and weekends) are available on request. This clinic is useful for women who: • Are experiencing pain or bleeding in their pregnancy. • Have had three or more previous miscarriages. • Have had previous ectopic pregnancies.

• Are unsure of the date of their last menstrual period. • Need reassurance. What will happen? Your appointment at the Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic will be with our consultant gynaecologist, who will be able to talk through any concerns you might have. You will then undergo an assessment and have an internal (transvaginal) ultrasound scan, which lasts approximately 10 minutes. In total your appointment should last about 30 minutes. The consultant will be able to confi rm at the scan if your baby has a heartbeat, how many babies there are, when your baby

is due and if the pregnancy is progressing normally. The results of your scan are available immediately, and your consultant will talk you through what the results mean and whether you require any further treatment or referral. How much does it cost?

An appointment cost £100, which includes your consultation appointment and ultrasound scan.
