NEW MAYOR FOR TONBRIDGE
AND MALLING Cllr Howard Rogers, the former mayor of Tonbridge and Malling, handed over the mayoral chain to new Mayor, Cllr Sasha Luck, who represents the ward of West Malling and Leybourne, at Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council’s Annual Council meeting on Tuesday, 13th May. Sasha, whose real name is Sandra but when she was a child she was nicknamed
Sasha – the nickname stuck and she has been known as Sasha ever since! – moved to Kent in 1954 where she attended Gads Hill School for Girls in Higham. She then qualifi ed as a hairdresser and opened her own salon in Rochester. By 1975, she had developed a keen interest in clocks and opened The Old Clock Shop in West Malling. Sasha’s offi cial escort for her year as Mayor will be Michael Chantler. She said: “I love meeting people and fi nding out about the fantastic work they are doing and I’m looking forward to many more visits this year.”

THE HARMONY THERAPY TRUST
The Harmony Therapy Trust provides NHS-approved (but not funded) therapy for people in Kent living with chronic life-altering illnesses such as cancer, cardiac or renal failure, MS, ME, HIV/Aids, fi bromyalgia and Parkinson’s, among others. Although there are sceptics who doubt the positive effects of complementary therapy, it has been proved these types of treatments have many benefi ts. We require referral by a GP or
healthcare specialist. On acceptance, THTT provides free treatments in the comfort of the patient’s home or at the therapist’s place of work. Typical referrals come from Kent Oncology, NHS Trust hospitals throughout Kent plus Guys, Harefi eld and UCL. Available therapies include

Country gardens open gates for Macmillan on 29th June Two fabulous country gardens in Biddenden are opening their gates to the public for a fantastic afternoon of fl owers, food and fun. The two are just a few hundred yards apart – one a delightful country cottage
garden, the other an extremely pretty part-terraced garden. There’s also an Animal Corner with goats, ponies, chickens, ducks and geese, plenty of country stalls and a raffl e. And when you’re ready to take a bit of a break, there will be cream teas, home-made cakes and ice creams available.
Entry is by donation, with all the money raised going to help Macmillan and its vital work for people affected by cancer. There is also plenty of parking, but unfortunately no wheelchair access or dogs allowed. • It’s all happening from 1pm to 6pm on 29th June, at Little Mockbeggar Farm and Moonrakers, Mockbeggar Lane, Biddenden, Kent TN27 8ES.

On Saturday, 5th July Kent College will host the national South Finals of Young Fashion Designer UK and will welcome fi nalists and their families from schools in the south, including London. The gifted fi nalists will have the opportunity to showcase their excellence and innovative skills to a panel of esteemed industry professionals. The day will consist
of inspirational workshops, guest speakers and an awards ceremony, where
