WITH WILDSIDE CYCLES Sun is shinning, the weather is sweet… Well, maybe not yet, but it will be soon! We have had some good evening rides over the last few weeks. However both I and my colleague have nearly come to grief in separate incidents on the road. Me, thundering round the leafy lanes of Tunbridge Wells, I looked down to grab my water bottle, I looked up and there was a car in my path. I slammed on the brakes and steered violently to miss the car. I missed him by one inch.

My colleague, similar incident, Carters Hill in Sevenoaks, 35mph downhill, she looked up and there was a car in the way. Ooops (other expletives were mentioned)…violent braking and swerving etc. That was close. My point is this. Both these incidents were our fault. Going too fast and not taking enough care. A lethal mix that could have resulted in a nasty accident on the bikes. But now is the time to get those winter tyres off and get some fast rolling summer tyres on. Run your tyres at around 100psi for the best performance. The roads are still full of potholes so it could be a good idea to look for a road tyre such as a Continental Gator Skin or a Specialized Armadillo All Condition. These tyres offer extra protection against punctures

and are tough enough not to split or damage easily. They are fast rolling and worth every penny of their extra cost. Finally, check brake blocks and rims are in good enough condition to stop you in an emergency due to the faster speeds you will be running at on dry roads. Wildside look forward to seeing you all at the next
