CELEBRITY SCOOP

Two local charities are celebrating the support of TV personalities to help raise awareness for their very worthy causes. Kent celebrity and TV property guru Phil Spencer has become a Patron of Kent charity chYps Children’s Hospice at Home and his patronage will see him continue to support the charity by generating awareness and vital funds and help chYps to reach out to even more children in need of care. The Location, Location, Location star is encouraging supporters to ‘Get Purple’ during Children’s Hospice Week (13th to 20th June) in a bid to raise more awareness and funds for Kent’s only children’s hospice at home charity. Father-of-two Phil said: “Children’s Hospice Week is coming up in June and I am calling on everyone to wear purple for pounds in aid of chYps.” • Visit www.chyps.org or keep up to date on social media @chYpsCharity or www.facebook.com/chypschildrenshospice Meanwhile, former Bucks Fizz singer and TV star Cheryl

Baker, who is a Vice-President of Demelza, has written an open letter urging people to try something new to raise money for the children’s hospice. “Being a performer, I know what nerves feel like, but I don’t think anything can prepare someone for a feat such as this one. “As a Vice-President of Demelza, I’ve been able to witness the life-changing differences that this place makes to vulnerable young people and their families every day. As a result, I have

already taken an active role in participating in three events last year alone. This year’s Demelza 101 challenge is a 10-mile trek to the summit of Ben Nevis and it would be wonderful if you could join Team Demelza. We are offering 100 trekkers the chance to take part. • For more details, visit www.demelza.org.uk or email emma.austen@demelza.org.uk
