O, the Beauty of a Corner Bakery OLD TOWN.TEMECULA By Carol Malin Long for a corner bakery where you can comfortably sit and enjoy a luscious

treat accompanied by a good cup of coffee or tea? You’ll find that the Robin’s Nest in Old Town Temecula is a charming bake shop that encourages lingering. The freshly made treats sold here display the talent and presentation finesse of baker and owner, Robin McCoy. She bakes to her own impeccable taste, com- bining flavors in appealing ways resulting in cakes, cookies, candies, cobblers, pies, jellies and jams that reign supreme. McCoy also operates a popular cater- ing business that draws customers from far and near. “I founded Robin’s Nest Desserts and Catering with the desire to serve freshly made sweets and savory home-style food to my customers,” McCoy

said. “My mother was a cook and owned a soul food restaurant in Indiana. Every time I smell the aroma of peach cobbler baking in the oven, happy times spent in Mom’s kitchen come to mind. I want to share that joy with my customers by providing a cozy place where they can unwind and indulge their sweet tooth. On the catering side of my business, I aim to take the stress off hosts so they can spend time with their guests. Mom taught me that laughter, sincerity and atten- tion to detail are as important to making customers happy as are the fresh in- gredients used to make the food. ” McCoy earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration at DeVry Univer-

sity’s Keller Graduate School and spent years working in business and account- ing. When she relocated to California from the Midwest 10 years ago, she decided to put her passion for cooking and her knowledge of the restaurant business to work. She launched her catering business in San Diego in 2004. The enterprise was such a suc- cess that she chose to expand and open a storefront, and Voila! the Robin’s Nest in Temecula was born. Loyal customers, craving Robin’s cooking, make the trek up from San Diego regularly to visit the shop. Locals and tourists alike have

been asking McCoy if she soon will be offering espresso coffee drinks. To oblige she has ordered a commercial espresso machine to be installed in late March or in April. Soon she in- tends to serve soups and sandwiches at the shop. McCoy has planned some fun

events for her customers this year. On Valentine’s Day she introduced an Evening of Sweet Romance with dessert tastings and tea pairings. Dur- ing Old Town’s upcoming Hot Summer Nights, beginning July 12 through September 6, she will offer dessert tastings of cheesecake assortments, crème brûlée, cream puffs, flan, tiramisu and more. She is committed to serving the

community and is involved in fundrais- ing efforts for various charities. On March 24 McCoy is co-hosting the Cupcake Challenge; a fundraiser to benefit Rancho Damacitas Children’s Home in Temecula (read more about the event in this issue).
