Pool & Spa Scene: LIW REVIEW

Cutting Costs And CO2 The Calorex team was on hand at Leisure Industry Week to

show commercial pool operators how they could cut their energy bills in half and reduce CO2 emissions and climate

change levies by 66 % by switching to a Calorex heat recovery system.

With ways of spreading the costs through funding and extended payment terms, funding the conversion to more energy and cost-effi cient heating has never made more commercial sense.

In addition to its classic heat recovery systems, Calorex

fl agship models include the Delta 14 and 16 and the new Pro-Pac family of residential and commercial swimming pool pumps ranging from 8 – 120kW.

closely at cost-savings across the utilities. “We are we are doing well with governing bodies as an intense training centre for elite swimmers but we are looking at all ages and levels.

“Hopefully with the media coverage on both Olympics and

Paralympics will generate a lot of income into our facility and to get people active.”

FRESH IDEAS

Debra Falkingham runs her Debra’s Little Fish, swim school, at a school pool inPocklington, Yorkshire. She knows she has to come up with fresh ideas to keep attracting customers as well as retaining clients to her business.

“I am at LIW looking for new initiatives and ideas and equipment for the swim school from arm bands and fl oats to safety such as non slip.”

Debra operates her swim classes out of a local school pool.

“We are always challenged to fi nancially keep the kids coming in and to keep ahead of the competition we have to keep coming up with something different.” “We have found more interest from parents signing up children from high profi le some high profi le drowning incidents rather than the Olympics,” Debra comments.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT A team from the Severn Centre Trust, Highley, Shropshire were visiting LIW to look at ways of maximising the potential of their multi sports facilities but also to investigate the possibilities for extending the use of its outdoor swimming pool. “The pool is open from May to September but did not have its best year this year with the disappointing weather over the summer,” says David Beech, duty manager. “We are exploring ideas such as enclosing the pool but need to be sure such a signifi cant investment will be well received by the community and it will be well used.” 
