The Soccer City Stadium which is also known as the FNB Stadium is currently the home of the South Africa National team, Bafana Bafana. It was opened in 1989 and now host a capacity of 94, 700 making him ranked sixth places in the World biggest soccer venue.

When renovating the stadium in preparation for the 2010 World Cup, the design of the stadium was inspired by the shape of the calabash, a gourd used throughout Africa to store food and drink and a symbol of hospitality and togetherness. The stadium was first opened in 1989 with a capacity of 80,000, but a major upgrade of the stadium took place in preparation to host the 2010 World Cup. The Stadium is located in Nas- rec which is in Johannesburg, and it is based right next to the South African Football Associations headquarters.

A total sum of $424million was used to upgrading the stadium including the increase of its capacity to 94,700 together with an extended upper tier which was built to in- crease the capacity as well as 2 executive suites, a stadium roof, new changing rooms and new floodlights.

Soccer City, which is said to have no restricted views, hosted 8 matches in total at the 2010 World Cup including the quarter-final between Uruguay and Ghana which the Uruguayans went on to win the game on penalties 4-2, after Sunderland’s Asamoah Gyan missed the spot kick to win the game for Ghana which then Ajax skipper now Liverpool new hero Luis Suarez handle the ball on the line in the final min- ute. The stadium also hosted the final between Holland and Spain which Spain won 1-0 with a goal from Andrés Iniesta.
