Due to the current political situation in Ivory Coast, the interim executive committee also considered moving the WAFU secretariat from the former French colony to a country where it will be more functional.
The Banjul General Assembly also reviewed the existing relations between Football Associations (FAs) of WAFU member states and their respective governments and thanked governments in West Africa for their continued support to development of football in their respective countries.
West African governments were urged to continue to cooperate with their national football associations and provide the resources and facilities needed to develop the game in the region, while the member associations were also advised to employ all measures necessary to ensure peaceful co-existence with their governments.
Other members of the new WAFU interim team are the FA presidents of Senegal, Au- gustin Senghore; Guinea Bissau, Jose Lobato; Gambia, Seedy Kinteh; Cote D’Ivoire, Idris Diallo; Burkina Faso, Theodore Sawadogo; and Mali’s Hamadou Cisse.
The Banjul Assembly was graced by high-profile world football figures in Mohammed Bin Hammam, the president of the Asian Football Confederation who will contest FIFA presidential elections next month and Danny Jordan, the CEO of the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals.
