actual essence of the Boston Marathon from the athletes perspectives, the city of Bos- ton and the organizers who benefit quite substantially from all the endorsement and the influx of foreign athletes, media and visitors to the city for the event.
Whether Geoffrey Mutai read the fine print about the details of the race or ever paid attention to, or was told the fact that the race was being run on a course that was not ratified by the World’s Athletics governing body (the IAAF) is a question that only Mu- tai can answer.
Whatever be the case, Mutai has got to be disappointed to find out that he will never go down in the annals of history as an official record holder of the Marathon except if he breaks the record again on an officially ratified course this time around - which he is perfectly capable to do as many people believe.
Despite the fact that athletes compete for prize money from which they earn their live- lihood, they also seek to leave a legacy of their performances in the form of official re- cords; that will be a proof that at some point in their life they were the most dominant athlete in their discipline in the world. Therefore, it is evident that having had a taste of what it takes to break a world record, Geoffrey Mutai, will undoubtedly, try it again in the future on a ratified course this time.
Editor’s Note: Geoffrey Mutai is not related to the other Mutai, the winner of the Lon- don’s Virgin Marathon on Sunday April 17 2011.
The NFL Draft: New York Giants select Prince Amukamara By Leslie Koroma
Projected to go early in the first round Prince Amukamara was indeed selected by the as the 19th overall pick by the New York Giants. He joins fellow African Osi Umeniyora, Matthias Kiwanuka. The new York Giants had been known to be seeking a shut down corner in fact they have been in the race to bring in another African super star Nnamdi Asomugha the best Corner in the NFL who was recently released by the Oakland Raiders. With the selection of Amukamara most pundits feel they have that need for a corner filled so in effect if they still land Asomugha they would in effect have the best backfield in the league added to the fact that they are already ranked as one of the best defense in the NFL.
