in the 14th minute when Robert Huth appeared to elbow Mario Balotelli in the face. The referee and his two assistants missed it. Huth should have been sent off.

In the 20th minute after some intricate passing with Jonathan Walter, Kenwyne Jones saw his shot blocked by Vincent Company.

Three minutes later Sorensen made world class save by tipping Yaya Toure’s curling shot around the post for a corner.

In the 29th minute Man City were knocking on the

door again as Toure saw his shot gathered at the second attempt by Sorensen. David Silva should have scored in the 34th minute but he somehow shot into the ground from close range and watched he shot go over the bar.

It was scoreless at the break. Stoke’s best chance came in the 61st minute. The ball fell to Kenwyne Jones who was one on one with Joe Hart. However he could not get the ball out of his feet quickly and Hart smothered his shot. A minute later Stoke made a change. Dean Whitehead replaced Matthew Etherington who had just come back from a hamstring injury.

Man City made their own substitution in the 72nd minute as Adam Johnson replaced Gareth Barry. The change was the most significant of the game. 2 minutes later Man City’s goal arrived. Adam Johnson broke down the right and crossed into the box. When the ball was cleared it fell perfectly to Toure who smashed the ball into the net. Toure who is a big time player who had won trophies with Barcelona was also the same player whose goal got Man City to the final of this competition.

Effectively the game was over. At the final whistle the Man City fans were ecstatic and overjoyed. They have watched from afar as their neighbours, Manchester United have picked up trophies season after season. They will now have to take that banner at Old Trafford down, which they use to remind City of the last time they won a trophy.
