While endorsing the committee, the sports minister said the Kenyan teams will not be going to the event as participants but with the sole aim of improving their last year's record, where they won 13 gold medals, 15 silvers and 10 bronze and the country ex- pects to send teams in more than 20 disciplines.


The committee’s major role was to ensure the teams have ample preparation time, approval of games budget, determine the disciplines to take part and accreditation of teams and officials among other things.


With the qualifiers of most sporting disciplines almost complete’ the Kenya manage- ment committee of the 2011 All Africa games had shifted its focus on calling up foreign -based athletes to boost the teams for the event as they plan to send one of its strong- est teams to the Games.


The Kenyan Chef de Mission Charles Nyaberi said: “all the teams have been given provision to invite foreign based athletes for the Games but on one condition that who- ever comes in has to better than the local based players available.”

Kenya will be participating Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Chess, Cycling, Football, Handball, Judo, Taekwondo, Karate, Netball, Swimming, Canoe and Rowing, Sports for Disabled, Table Tennis, Tennis, Triathlon, Shooting, and Volleyball.


The men’s Basketball, the women’s volleyball and the men and women’s handball team successfully went through the qualifiers while the men’s U-23 football team is yet to play Uganda to book their ticket to Maputo.
