In Africa, there has been much progress since the 20th century, which has seen the construction of modern sports stadium, standard tennis and basketball courts, Olym- pic surfaces for track and field events and sleek swimming pools. Most of these facili- ties have had their technological gadgets and networks updated to fit modern trend.


African sports can’t be really cursed to be lacking behind in modern technology. Be- side the existence of European standard sports facilities in Northern African region and South Africa, governments of countries south of the Sahara have enviably mod- ernized different sport surfaces in their respective countries.


Improvements in modern technology have resulted in better playing conditions and equipment for players as well as greater viewing pleasure for spectators.


Modern flood lighting has allowed a better use of sports facilities at the recreational level, making it possible for games to comfortably take place at night-time. Electronic score boards, photo-finish timing devices, slow motion replays and large viewing screens have not only added to the viewing pleasure of spectators, but contributed to the improvement and accuracy of judgments.


The spread of satellite TV and the Internet in Africa help fans get acquainted real time with their favorite games and fixtures from around the continent and beyond and also make it possible to follow different games simultaneously.


A number of sports stadium in Africa now use synthetic turfs, which is a third genera- tion synthetic grass made from polymers and provides a maintenance free all-weather surface for sports.


The application of composite materials is now a common phenomenon in African sports, which makes sports equipment such as rackets and protective gear, lighter and more durable, helping athletes to improve performance.
