ASM: Did the Olympic gold medal open doors for you or did the World Record already do that?

JE: No there are doors opened as an Olympic champion, especially my involvement with 2012 and the role I have here with the athletes committee to prepare this place for the best athletes in 2012. Being an Olympic champion makes a big difference.

ASM: What is your role?

JE: I am the athlete’s representative on the board and I chair an athletes committee. We oversee all the different plans the Olympic Committee has – both the Olympics and Paralympics to make sure that we provide the best possible experience for all the athletes in 2012.

ASM: How important is it as a former athlete taking this role? Do you think there is an added advantage that you have the experience of what the athletes ex- pect?

JE: Sure. The entire committee is made up of former Olympic and Paralympic ath- letes. There are also sports administrators because sometimes the athletes do not have the whole picture. You understand some of the things behind the scenes that you need to do for athletes. But having been that experience as an athlete you can communicate to some of the teams here what happens to an athlete. When you ar- rive here what is the worst thing that could happen? What could go wrong? I think it is an important part of getting our plan rights hence the reason for our “London Pre- pares Series” which are our test events. This again helps us not just to test the tech- nology.
