T
he home care industry has come a long way since its beginnings in the early 1990s, following the introduction of the NHS and Community Care Act.
The idea of community care had
been around for many years but the implementation of the act formally made provision for those who required care to live with dignity and independence, whether that was care at home, in special needs housing or in a residential home. It became clear that residential care was proving too costly and simply did not provide all the answers when it came to addressing the health and social care needs of individuals. In addition, the last five years have seen
greater diversification of services. In real terms this means that care and support, however specialised, is now available to children, young people, and adults of all ages and disabilities, offering an opportunity to live their lives in the way they would like. Individuals are now able to buy many different types of care and this can be anything from a simple twice-daily domestic call to specialised care and support packages.
Over 25 years ago, Kevin Lewis, CEO
of Caremark, ventured into the care sector when he set up a rest home in East Sussex. From this, he quickly understood the importance of providing a quality service to vulnerable people. When, in 1993, he was approached by social services to move into providing domiciliary care, little did he realise it would be the start of a lifelong passion, with Caremark becoming his second successful home care franchise. Launched in 2005, Caremark now has a network of over 85 franchises, all of which
use the same proven, fine-tuned system and share Kevin’s passion for care and a commitment to provide the best service to the vulnerable people they support.
“Caremark is extremely proud of what their network of franchisees achieved in regards to quality and growth in 2013”
The evolving world of care means franchisors and franchisees alike need to have a constant eye on the sector and must be prepared to raise its game to meet those changes. To ensure Caremark continued to meet the needs of a changing market, at its 2013 annual conference they set a goal of ‘raising the bar’ and results show that, one year on, the growing network of franchisees not only achieved this but also exceeded the target. In 2013, Caremark was proud to see Janis Anderson of the Aylesbury and Wycombe office achieve the coveted titles of bfa HSBC Franchisee of the Year and Female Franchisee of the Year. Additionally, the standard of care provided by Caremark was recognised when care and support worker Michelle McGhee won the Home Care Worker Award at the Great North East Care Awards 2013, proving that both Caremark franchisees and carers are some of the best in the UK. So far, 2014 is proving to be another

Welcoming the appointment, Kevin Lewis comments: “I am delighted to announce this appointment. Anne has worked with me for a number of years in several different businesses and I value her support and contribution to the growth and development of the Caremark network, as we take the business to ever- greater levels of success through 2014.” Caremark have seen their network grow
