Previous ‘Meet the Buyer’ events have been very successful; what do you think it is about this format that works really well?


Meet the Buyer is a very simple but very effective format. When the Retail Design Manager for George at Asda tells you it’s “a great way to meet


potential suppliers and refresh your business


contacts” you know you’re on the


right track. The clever part, as far as the Association


is concerned, is working out the schedule so that the Buyers meet appropriate suppliers and vice versa. This involves meticulous planning beforehand and a strict timetable on the day. By sticking to this format the event runs smoothly, efficiently and calmly. Everyone enjoys the day and comes away with valuable new contacts.


I’ll give you an example of why it works


for Buyers: a well known retailer with a number of large out­of­town stores had visualised an overhead structure above the central hub in each outlet, but was concerned about the cost and structural implications of hanging such a structure from the roof. The Buyer met a supplier who had an extremely lightweight and cost effective solution, which had the added benefit of being easily updated with new graphics. Both parties were delighted to have met the other, and a 10­minute meeting was all it took. As a supplier, particularly a newly established business, seeking out new openings within retail can be extremely difficult. This event brings them face­to­ face with the people who count; Senior Buyers and Specifiers of leading retail groups, all in one day! Many new business partnerships have been forged as a result. What more could you ask of an event?
