Props
CDW Merchants provides unique props to add the finishing touches to all their client’s projects.
trend in retail design is for nononsense industrialstyle interiors where buildings’ core architectural elements remain exposed. Brick walls, steel beams, concrete columns and timber floors are left uncovered to form features in their own right, a look that is being seen across the retail sector”. This is a trend that lends itself well to the use of props, as things like vintage shop fittings and salvaged fixtures help to bring this aesthetic to life. As a result, designers and merchandisers are looking to specialist architectural antique dealers like Andy Thornton to source complete shop interiors from display cases to counters. The team is able to offer all sorts, from cast iron and steel tables to factory carts and vintage musical instruments, and will source and supply props to support almost any theme. For Modemakers, owners Patrick D’eer

and Marc Vandooren went on an international buying trip to source display materials and props, and found just what they needed when they visited Andy Thornton’s showrooms. Selecting from the ‘Urban Vintage’ collection, Modemakers sourced a complete selection of visual display equipment, along with carefully selected vintage props and a collection of sepia prints and signs. Around the store, Andy Thornton has also provided pieces of interest such as an old school vaulting horse, sports equipment and a selection of vintage leather suitcases, as well as decorative mirrors, changing room stools and a battered old leather armchair. The owners are delighted with the new look of the store, which has already boosted sales significantly since reopening and are

already looking to extend the new concept to a second store at Lochristi, near Gent. CDW Merchants is another company
that understands the importance of finishing touches. Having provided props for a number of retailers, the team can offer custom decorations, props and ornaments to compliment any retail design. Tasked with bringing unique props to their clients, CDW Merchants are focused on delivering solutions that are needed for fast turnarounds in the retail calendar. The team’s passion for the industry combined with key partnerships across the globe means that they can provide an ideal solution for any client’s needs. The use of props is a great extension of
a brands identity, and playful, trendy or seasonal props can speak volumes to the customer about the values and personality of any store. Although they may be seen as the finishing touches of a retail design or specific visual merchandising promotion, finishing touches can be the difference between a good promotion and a great one!
