KER Yards Langsten delivered the icebreaker Polar Pevek to Polar Pevek


Ltd, a joint venture between Rieber Shipping and Primorsk Shipping Corp, in June 2006. This MM65 ice vessel was designed by Multi Maritime AS and Rieber Shipping, in cooperation with the yard writes Henrik Sergercrantz in this special feature on Norway. The vessel is now providing icebreaker


services and support for tankers mooring at Sakhalin-1's recently completed oil terminal in De Kastri, at the mainland, opposite Sakhalin Island. It also functions as a fire-fighting vessel and carries out towing operations. Polar Pevek is operating under a 15-year contract for Exxon Neftegaz, the operator of the Sakhalin 1 project. The hull of the vessel was built by Aker Yards


Tulcea, in Romania, and the ship has a length overall of 74.36m, a length bp of 64.45m, a breadth of 17.0m, and has a bollard pull of 115tonnes forward, and 95tonnes astern. The machinery of this diesel-electric vessel


consists of four RR Bergen Diesel engines of type C25:33L9A, each rated at 2505kW, and each coupled to one 2505kW/3.3kV ABB generator. ABB also supplied the ship's electrical systems including generators, switchboards, transformers, frequency converters, and two ABB V16 Azipod propulsion units, each rated at 5000kW. Installed forward is one 700kW Brunvoll tunnel thruster, and the vessel also has two

Cummins QSK60 auxiliary generators - each 1440kW, 1800kVA, 440V, 3-phase, and 60Hz


- and a 310kW Cummins QSM 11/Stamford emergency generator. Polar Pevek’s deck machinery was provided by Rolls-Royce Marine and includes a Brattvaag/IP Huse towing winch.


Icebreaking series completed A series of three icebreaking offshore supply vessels of Rolls-Royce's UT 758-ICE design, Pacific Endeavour, Pacific Endurance, and Pacific Enterprise were recently built for the Prisco Swire Offshore Pte Ltd, a joint-venture between Prisco and Swire Pacific Offshore Ltd.
