An innovative new approach to apprenticeship training is currently proving a hit with young people from London and industry experts alike, says Louise McCallum, general manager at Train’d Up.


An in-house apprenticeship pro- gramme, delivered in the work- place for apprentices aged be- tween 16-24, has been developed in partnership between national training provider Train’d Up and Tube Lines (a subsidiary of Trans- port for London – TfL).


We felt there was a better way to deliver apprenticeship training. The traditional apprenticeship model meant that apprentices spent a large part of their time away at college and away from their workplace. This could often lead to a ‘them and us’ culture.


Our new approach was to develop a company focused model that delivered high-quality accred- ited training within the employer’s workplace. This creates a single team culture from day one and ensures a closer affinity between apprentice and employer.

We use skilled trainers who have a sound occupational background and up-to-date industry experience.


By working closely with employ- ers, we can ensure a high-quality curriculum that meets learners’ needs, but is also flexible enough to meet employers’ practical needs.
