Butterfly lighting:
Butterfly lighting creates a totally different effect again and refers to the shadow cast under the nose of the subject. To achieve this, you will need to suspend the key light directly above the subject so that the shadows are all cast downwards. As you can see from the example, it can create a very moody and dramatic effect, whilst elongating the facial features. One benefit of butterfly lighting is that it is more flexible when your subject is moving a lot. Movement of the head will of course change the shape of the face, but as the light is directly overhead, it doesn't always matter which way your subject is facing.
