EssentialCaffè Culture: Review

We have always found it to be an excellent platform to launch new products; last year we launched the prestolino! and this year the WMF 2000S, which has been very well received so far. We had visits from a number of our existing distributors who were able to use our stand to introduce their customers and new prospects to our range of coffee machines, so real benefits for all."

Marco Beverage Systems gave a formal launch to the

Über Boiler, which was to be seen on the Brew Bar as well as Marco's own stand. With filter coffees currently taking the artisan barista world by storm coffee cognoscenti were happily engaged trying out the new Über Boiler in both locations. This is a refined undercounter atmospheric water boiler with a stylish countertop font that incorporates a digital weigh scale, a plumbed drain, live temperature read-out and a timer. It has been developed to give baristas the precision they need to make their chosen beverages to an accurate specification with hot water at a precise temperature to suit the type of coffee (or tea) they are using. Your editor was particularly impressed with this piece of kit: it's not often we see an item of equipment that's genuinely innovative and in this case the Über Boiler is actually helping the world's leading baristas to perfect their craft even further. Impressive! The boiler is suitable for use with a wide cross-section of tea and coffee making apparatus, including teapots, pourovers, French Presses, Aeropresses and Chemex. Another launch which impressed Yours Truly was the new Espresso POM (Peace of Mind) service from Food Alert.

Championship for filter coffee

The World AeroPress® Championship 2010, which took place at the Brew Bar at Caffè Culture, was won by Danish contestant Marie Hagermeister. Marie works at Café Europa 1989 in the heart of Copenhagen: the café's cosmopolitan style is inspired by the best of European café culture.

Cream Supplies - sole UK agent for AeroPress - was a sponsor of the Championship, and amongst Marie's prizes were a just-launched AeroPress BrewStation and a mypressi® TWISTTM handheld espresso maker donated by the company.

Espresso POM is a one-stop solution created to meet the safety requirements of cafés, independent coffee shops, bakeries, delis and sandwich bars. As a leading safety consultancy specialising in food hygiene and health & safety solutions for the catering and hospitality sectors, Food Alert already offers a POM service for larger groups in this sector - including the likes of Starbucks, Le Pain Quotidien and Benugo - but it's nice to see someone recognising the needs of the 'little guy'. The new bespoke service aims to provide smaller outlets with the highest standard of food hygiene and safety, specifically tailored to their needs. Under the service contract, Food Alert will undertake an annual safety audit, prepare a personalised safety manual, and provide technical helpline support and incident management services.
