A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

For Christ and the Church…

Harvard University, established in 1636 as the first American University, had as its motto in 1692 the phrase: Truth, for Christ and the Church. In 1642 Harvard continued in its early days to articulate their core mission as follows (note: original spell- ings kept intact): “Let every Student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed to consider well, the maine end of his life and studies is, to

know God and Jesus Christ which is eternal life (John 17:3) and therefore to lay Christ in the bottome, as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and Learning. And seeing the Lord only giveth wisedome, Let every one seriously set himself by prayer in secret to seek it of Him (Prov. 2:3).” Those words were a powerful charge to the Harvard community and a strong and secure foundation. Today, sadly, the motto is simply “Truth”, with the accompanying notion that human rational inquiry is the sufficient end of all discovery. This is one case where I am delighted to

say with gratitude: “Jessup is NOT Harvard!”, at least not the Harvard of today. As you will read throughout these pages, William Jessup University is deeply devoted to Jesus Christ and we are very clear that what we do is CHRIST CENTERED HIGHER EDUCATION.

The Bible is very clear that Jesus is not

only the only way to salvation (John 14:6), but that in Christ, all things “hold together” (Colossians 1:17). Jessup University is deeply committed to a Biblical and Christological worldview. We accept as foundational and fundamental that Jesus is Lord of the Church and the world and that His Word is the measuring rod of all truth. All truth is God’s truth and we believe that His Word has been revealed to help us understand the power, beauty, majesty, complexity, and simplicity of the created order. I’m thankful that we have always been in

partnership with the church here at Jessup. Brother Bill Jessup and each President since then has taken a solemn oath to steward the gift of our University as a precious trust. I am grateful to serve with a Board, faculty, staff, and executive team that know that Jesus is the “core of the core” here at Jessup in all we do. Thank you for your continued support of

William Jessup University as we keep Jesus at the center of all we do. We are doing Christ Centered Higher Education for His glory.

John Jackson, Ph.D. President
