experiences, and faith, the community and residential experience at Jessup help stu- dents learn, grow, and discern God’s calling for their time after college. “I have had a lot of decisions that I've had

to make and this school definitely helped me in those decisions, not only with picking my major but doing things out of school like going to Haiti over the summer and becom- ing an R.A.” senior Cliff Woodward said. “I feel like Jessup is preparing me for the outside world.” The

Apostle

Paul’s letter to the church in Rome boldly

instructed

believers to “ live in harmony with one another.” As followers of Christ, we are instructed to surrender ourselves to selfless living in order to live in har-

mony with others, and living in a residence hall in direct contact with others may be the first time a student is actually forced to engage with someone other than their sibling when it comes to daily life and living quarters. “There are a number of universities that do

not provide student housing for upperclass- men,” one parent noted. “One of the reasons we encouraged our students to choose WJU was because we value the emphasis on holis- tic education which includes student resi- dence life experience.” Jessup’s Christ-centered residential

experience

encourages students to work through time and conf lict management, understanding cohab- itation schedules and cultural dissonance, shared spaces, different personalities, expres- sions, and theological perspectives.

At Jessup, such messy living is also one

filled with repentance and grace. Living in one of the halls or the apartments is a much greater experience than just securing a space on campus for a room, bed, and shower. It is a life-changing, first-hand experience in living like Jesus.. “We believe that Residence Life exists to

champion the resident experience by creat- ing Christ-centered living learning environments,” said Dave Heitman, Director of Residence Life and Student Care. “It's all about preparing students to lead extraordinary lives by integrating learning and spiritual growth.” Residence Life seeks to

contribute to students’ transformative educa- tion by offering holistic programs, services, and environments fostering student involvement, responsibility, and lead- ership. “We provide safe, secure residence halls and inclusive communities where students, staff, and faculty integrate key aca- demic, social, spiritual, and recreational expe- riences,” Heitman adds. “Our commitment is to ignite God given passions and social responsibility in partnership with our residents.” One of

Jessup’s stated

goals is to provide a residential experience for two out of every three tra- ditional students enrolled at WJU. However, keeping up with our aggressive enrollment growth—as well as the new undergraduate and gradu- ate programs—has been challenging! The University successfully raised funding and constructed the campus apartments in 2009. But in 2011-12, Jessup dipped below its best intentions as only one-half of the enrolled
