#JESSUPARTS BACHELOR OF ARTS in Creative Arts

“Jessup Is My Place”

DEREK MARTIN, CHAIR, DEPARTMENT OF CREATIVE ARTS

JENNIFER MARTIN ADMINISTRATIVE FACULTY, THEATRE

"Because we’re growing so rapidly, anybody who comes to the table can find a place where they’re desperately needed, right away. We have one student who declined acceptance to Stanford in favor of what she now calls, ‘the finest education available to me.’ Part of this is because we don’t let go of our students. We feel responsible when people articulate their dreams; especially in those moments where they feel discouraged and they want to give up, we have a whole community of students who won’t let go of each other. We actually had an adjudicator or respondent from the American College Theater Festival come to review Jessup’s production of the

Crucible and one of his comments was that he stopped taking notes after the first 20 minutes and didn’t resume until the end of the show because, as he put it, ‘I was literally too captivated.’ That’s the level of production we strive for. We ask ‘what part of

this is not irresistible and how can we make it irresistible’ (a spinoff of the Andy Stanley philosophy of an attracting church). It’s not just the program, it’s the students. The talent the Lord has brought in visual arts, theater and arts management students – they’re self-starters, entrepreneurs, and amazing talents. Beyond the program the level of professionalism students are

exhibiting in school and after graduation is remarkable, as we’re see- ing students already placed with or contributing to Kodak, ScanDisk, Boston Globe, the California Republican Convention and area arts outlets like Sacramento Light Opera Association. With the training of this program, our students can create jobs, and not just be employed by them."

“The most irresistible experience with live theater from here to San Francisco.”
