dedicated to creating “transformational leaders, world-changers and innovative thinkers,” with what resolve should I leave readers? Like all good discipleship, Christians

shouldn’t be absent from the various platforms of social media; in fact, we should embrace them as another means to engage with the world, demonstrating love and truth in a whole new medium. Most specifically this applies to Jessup -- staff, students, alumni, as well as our purpose as a University. If we are to truly prepare future “leaders, world-changers and innovative thinkers,” that requires some sort of extended relationship, worldwide connection, and communication. It requires an active rela- tionship...with an online community. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we need to

throw off our floaties and just cannonball into the deep end. I concurred with Dr. Ambrose when she said, “There needs to be boundaries and expectations for when and how we use technology. I think it is especially important to remember that college students are using tech- nology anyway, a lot! It is an important part of pedagogy now.” As classes at Jessup integrate more technol-

ogy, and even become offered exclusively in an online platform, I find myself, funny enough, looking at the benefits of an online society. A place where students of all different back- grounds, locations, and mindsets can gather together to learn, cultivating a fuller knowl- edge of God’s unique design carved into each of them. An online society that requires us to have caution and discernment for the medium

in which we are choosing to engage can bring about healthy interaction. So, with respect for the team who proposed

the original title, I’d like to make a small adden- dum. Instead, I’d like it to read “The Benefits of Discipline In An Online Society.” As Paul said to the church at Corinth,

“All things are lawful for me, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be enslaved by anything” (1 Corinthians 6:22). In essence, while an online society is good, lawful, and beneficial, we shouldn’t allow ourselves to become slaves to its presence. In the spirit of

disciplined moderation, today as I stream my podcast and text my loved ones, I’ll be intentional about using those tools to build valuable knowledge and lasting relationships. If you think about it, Jesus was a people person too, and in His Great Commission called us to communicate His message around the world. I’d like to think He would have used an online society for His glory. Who knows, He might have even live-tweeted the last supper. #FollowMe
