Simulating Complex Processes Simulation software continues to get more robust as users demand that anything that can possibly be damaged during machining—toolchangers, pallet changers, spindles, turrets, tombstones—must be simulated, noted Gene Granata, CGTech (Irvine, CA) product man- ager for the Vericut NC simulation, verifi cation and optimization software.


“Setting up virtual simulation is much like set- ting up a job on the real machine, and we may be at a tipping point with the accessibility and reliance on 3D geometry,” Granata said. “Getting solid models or complete assemblies of CNC ma- chines, tooling, fi xtures, and other features used to be a barrier to quickly implementing Vericut, but 3D models are becoming readily available and vendors are becoming more open to sharing this information.”

As more of the world’s manufacturing resources become avail- able via Internet connectivity, simulation will enable users to quickly take advantage of these resources.” CGTech’s Vericut version 8 will be showcased at IMTS, with the latest update featuring a new Ribbon Bar that provides quick access to the Vericut functions users need for their specifi c workfl ow, Granata said. “As you move from tab to tab, the Ribbon bar dynamically updates to show the options available for that tab. Options are grouped by the function they perform within Vericut, and are highly cus-
