The 1249 Mile Strengthening and Hardening Project Update

Two more truckloads of poles delivered.

Reed Emerson, Sr. V.P. of Engineering and Opera- tions, reports that we currently have approximately 1230 miles completed in this massive line replace- ment project.

The last two projects in Okeene finished up this past week.

Ten of our contractors pulled out last month and went to work Hurricane Matthew. They are now back work- ing on the Watonga project.

With less than 20 miles left, we should be done with construction on this final Watonga project by the middle of this month!

We are anxious to get this project completed and want to thank our membership for your patience and for driving safely around all the trucks and men work- ing on the lines.

When gearing up for fall weather projects, like raking leaves, planting shrubs, or cleaning gutters, it’s im- portant to remember that the electricity powering your home comes from overhead lines or underground lines buried near your house.

Electrical safety tips outside your home include:

When planting trees or shrubs in your outdoor space, call 811 to request an underground locate before you dig. With just one call this free service notifies all utili- ties so they can locate their underground services.

After your locates are complete, leave space around ground level (pad mount) transformers and electric meter poles and pedestals when planting.

When moving ladders or trimming tools, be especially careful that they do not come in contact with over- head lines or trees close to the lines.

Use wood or fiberglass ladders if you must work near electric wires. Never use aluminum or metal ladders near electric lines.

Do not use electrical tools around standing water or water saturated ground.

Do not plant trees under overhead power lines. Do not plant trees or shrubs over or near underground power lines or transformers.

November 6th, 2016

Do not fly kites or battery powered toys near the over- head lines. Do not let kids touch or play on the pad mount transformers (green square electrical boxes).
