A supplement to Oklahoma Living Just Desserts

Ralph Cunningham prepares to enjoy a special cake created in his honor by friends at Kiwash Electric Cooperative. Cunningham is retiring after 20 years on the Kiwash Electric Cooperative board of trustees. Kiwash Electric held a special reception for Ralph Cunningham on March 25.

R

alph Cunningham is more than a little bit familiar with electric cooperatives. For the past 2o years, he has devoted a great

part of his life to serving on the Kiwash Electric Cooperative board of trustees. Cunningham recently announced his plans to retire as District 7 trustee, effective April 1, 2015.

Cunningham was appointed to the board in 1995. A longtime resident of Sentinel, Cunningham’s familiarity with the area and his fellow co-op members made him the perfect choice to serve as a Kiwash Electric director.

During his many years on the board, Cunningham devoted the time and scholarship necessary to become certified as a National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) Certified Cooperative Director. He also received several NRECA Board Leadership certificates.

Cunningham represented Kiwash Electric’s interests by serving on the board of directors of Western Farmers Electric Cooperative as both a voting and an alternate delegate.

Cunningham Retires After 20 Years Board begins process of reviewing candidates to fill District 7 seat

Dennis Krueger, general manager of Kiwash Electric Cooperative, said he has had the pleasure of working with Cunningham for the duration of his term.

“Ralph was a committed member of the board who always weighed his decisions very carefully based on what he felt was best for his fellow co-op members,” Krueger said. “He was fiscally conservative, yet always remained open to new ideas when they presented a positive future for his co-op. We will miss him.”

Kiwash Electric bylaws require Kiwash board members to appoint a candidate to fill the remainder of Cunningham’s term. The board will begin the process of reviewing qualified candidates from District 7.

For complete details on this process, please refer to your co-op bylaws. Copies of the bylaws are available at Kiwash Electric headquarters ata 120 West 1st Street in Cordell, or by calling your co-op at 888-832-3362.
