The rebate finder app is designed to make it quick and easy for co-op members to compare the purchase price of new appliances, and choose the most efficient model. Use the app before you shop or while you’re comparing prices at the store.

Even if your current appliance is still running fine, it’s worth looking into a new one. Why? The older an appliance gets, the less energy efficient it is because seals wear out and motors wind down.

Plus, newer appliances have been designed to comply with updated regulations for energy and water efficiency, so they use less energy—which could lower your monthly power bill. A

Energy Detective Keep your eye on CEC’s Energy Detective—he’s bringing you clues to common energy problems that could affect you.

CLUE: If you’re heating with a heat pump and your electric bill seems too high, be sure to check the outside unit carefully. Listen for the hum that tells you that it’s running— and be sure that the fan is turning. When an outside unit on a heat pump malfunctions, it causes the emergency heat strips to switch on. Because your home remains comfortable, you may not be aware of the problem until your electric bill arrives—Ouch!
