Checklist of travel-safe tips: ✓ Make sure your pet has identifi cation: microchip, collar and tags. ✓ Secure your pet in a crate or with a harness. The crate should be secured, also. ✓ Never leave your animal alone in the car—even on cold days. ✓ Make frequent stops for stretching, water breaks and elimination; always attach the leash before your pet leaves the car. ✓ Have a travel kit which includes food, water, bowls, plastic bags for clean-up, leash, medical records and any medications, a favorite toy, paper towels and cleaner for accidents or upset tummies, and a litter box and litter if traveling with a cat.
