ORIAM, SCOTLAND’S NEW SPORTS PERFORMANCE CENTRE ON TRACK
Oriam, Scotland’s £33 million Sports Performance Centre based on the University’s Edinburgh Campus, is on track to open in autumn 2016. This cutting-edge development will see Heriot-Watt become the training hub for, amongst others, Scotland’s national football and rugby squads.
The new purpose-built facility is a true state-of-the-art design with a wide range of high quality pitches, a sports hall and a fitness suite all on one site. Oriam aims to be a collaborative environment to support Scotland’s up-and-coming sports men and women, their coaches and volunteers, to train and prepare for competition at the highest levels.
By inspiring and developing athletes to go further, Oriam is designed to grow the nation through sport to elevate Scotland’s standing on the global stage. It will act as a springboard to success, driving Scotland to become a dominating force in world sport.
The centre will also welcome the local community, local sports groups and all staff and students. In addition it will provide Heriot-Watt with a unique opportunity to work directly with National Governing Bodies to develop innovative and interdisciplinary research projects with real world applications.
Commenting at the ground-breaking ceremony held in 2015, Jamie Hepburn MSP, said: “This multi-sport facility will equip Scotland’s top athletes with the necessary resources to compete on an international level, as well as inspire generations to come.”
Catriona McAllister was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Oriam during 2015
