ACADEMICS RECEIVE RSE RECOGNITION
Two Heriot-Watt professors were among the distinguished individuals elected to become Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE). Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer, Robert Buchan Professor of Sustainable Energy Engineering in Engineering, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS) and Head of the Institute of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering, and Professor Vicki Stone, Professor of Toxicology and Director of the Nano Safety Research Group in the School of Life Sciences (SLS), were honoured with fellowships.

SPIRIT OF HERIOT-WATT AWARDS 2015
The Spirit of Heriot-Watt Awards recognise highly committed and enthusiastic staff who especially embody the values of the University, and who work to make an exceptionally positive contribution through their role. This year’s winners are:

The team was recognised for their support to the student community, as an ‘unofficial network’ that looks out for the welfare of students providing a substantial but unseen positive impact on the student experience.
PURSUING EXCELLENCE:
Student Induction and Transition Office
Keith MacAskill and Emma Castle were recognised for the invaluable support and guidance provided to students, significantly enhancing the student experience specifically to those from Widening Participation backgrounds.
PRIDE AND BELONGING:
Peter Sandison, Library Manager Academic and Learner Services Scottish Borders Campus
Peter was recognised for leading by example, embedding pride and belonging in all that he does including his involvement with student related activities to give them the best possible experience of Heriot-Watt.
SHAPING THE FUTURE:
John Underhill, Professor Petroleum Engineering, School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society
John was recognised for bringing significant external investment into the University and for his role in bringing the British Geological Survey to the Edinburgh Campus.
OUTWARD LOOKING:
Jessie Teo, Student Recruitment Manager Malaysia Marketing and Student Recruitment
Jessie was recognised for her work promoting Heriot-Watt University Malaysia and the Heriot-Watt University brand, providing advice and information to parents, students and externally.
PARTNER AWARD:
Pinocchio’s Nursery Edinburgh Campus
Pinocchio’s Nursery and staff were recognised for enabling busy parents to feel confident that their children are being cared for in a safe, secure and rewarding environment.
