BP SUPPORTS NEW LYELL CENTRE
Heriot-Watt’s long standing relationship with BP has seen the world leading oil company provide £1.25 million over three years to help fund the University’s new Centre for Energy Economics Research and Policy. The Centre will be involved primarily with providing detailed statistical and analytical support for BP’s ‘Statistical Review of World Energy’ and its annual ‘Energy Outlook’.
BP has published its Statistical Review since 1952 and it is one of the most globally respected publications in the field of energy economics, used for reference by the media, academia, world governments and energy companies. Heriot- Watt University has worked on its production with BP since 2007.
Academics at the new Centre will support BP’s economics team to provide an objective snapshot of the global energy market, together with historical data and longer-term research on energy economics and markets. They will also contribute to BP’s Energy Outlook which aims to describe a “most likely” trajectory of the global energy system over the next 20 years, based on likely economic and population growth, and developments in policy and technology.
Professor Dorrik Stow, Head of the Institute of Petroleum Engineering, and Professor of Economics, Mark Schaffer, jointly lead the new Centre which will be incorporated into the University’s new £20 million Lyell Centre.
