Fujitsu

Fujitsu has launched new bulkhead horizontal only VRF fan coil units. Consisting of three models, the new low static pressure (max 30Pa) VRF fan coil units will be available in December 2017.They will be designated ARXK in sizes 07, 09 and 12 (2.2kW, 2.8kW and 3.5kW nominal). A smaller size 04 (1.1kW) model is due later next year. All models are fi tted with a condensate lift pump (850mm) as standard. The key feature of these new models is their very compact size and, in particular, their depth (front to back), which is only 450mm. This makes them ideal for dropped bulkhead applications in hotel bedroom or above wardrobes in residential applications where a short front to back dimension is often crucial. Their height is 198mm which is the same as the current higher static vertical/horizontal slim duct models. The unique Fujitsu Auto Louvre grille is also available as an optional accessory for the new models. The short front to back dimension of 450mm is made possible by adopting a ‘V’ shaped heat exchanger and patented air stabilisation system. Sound levels are low (21dBA) as is power input (28/35 watts) by way of a DC fan motor. www.fujitsu-general.com/uk

Poseidon

The risk of catching Legionnaires’ disease from air conditioning units has been dramatically reduced, thanks to a new biophotonic light sensor that spots Legionella bacteria 240 times quicker than methods used today, it is claimed.

The European group POSEIDON, (or ‘Plasmonic-based automated lab-on-chip sensor for the rapid in-situ detection of Legionella’) has developed its scanner to spot the deadly Legionella bacteria in under one hour, a process that normally takes 10 days of cultivation and analysis.

Equipped with tiny sensors, the device works by using the photonics technique of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), a procedure that reads information from a refracted laser beam, allowing fast, highly sensitive, inexpensive detection from a small sample without the need for ‘labelling’, the process of binding to a protein in order to be detected. SPR occurs when polarised beams of light hit a metal fi lm at the interface of two media. A charge density oscillation of free electrons at the metal fi lm occurs, reducing the intensity of refl ected light. The scale of the reduction depends on the substance on the metal at the interface.

Information then gathered from the refracted can then be analysed, and a pre-programmed pathogen confi rmed, resulting in an unambiguous detection of the bacteria in situ. www.photonics21.org/index.php

Doby Verrolec

Doby Verrolec has introduced the Universal G Clamp to its range of HVAC accessories which provides installers with the means to carry out the rapid assembly of cross joints. Designed to provide a better joint seal than snap or drive clips, the Universal G Clamp has a unique design which allows it to be truly universal and fi t both pocketed and non-pocketed fl ange systems with more even horizontal pressure on the faces of the fl ange. It is manufactured from hot rolled steel to BS EN 10111:1998 and features a new nose design which ensures that the joint is pulled together horizontally and parallel to the internal duct surface. This maximizes the air seal and minimises the tendency for the profi les to tilt and open up internally within the duct when the clamps are tightened. This ability to achieve a better joint seal reduces air leakage and over time will lower the overall system energy running costs. www.dobyverrolec.com

ECEX

Multi-specialist engineering contractor ECEX has broadened its service to include on and off - site repairs of all tube and fi n heat exchangers and the manufacture of coils to existing patterns or bespoke new designs. These services complement the company’s comprehensive design service for coils as well

as on and off site maintenance and cleaning. ECEX also off ers coil fi ltering in the form of Air Intake Screens, which extends the life and increases the reliability of coils. Condenser and evaporator coils are normally left unfi ltered, leading to a build-up of seasonal debris such as leaves and pollen. The screens are long lasting, weather-resistant fi lter mesh products

which fi x to external intakes on air handling units, chillers and condensers.

This protects coils before any airborne debris can clog the fi ns and reduce the effi ciency of evaporator or condenser coils. www.ecex.co.uk
