However, where A2L mildly
fl ammable refrigerants can be used then the recent commercial availability of two A2L mildly fl ammable refrigerants with a GWP below 150, will provide another option for new small hermetic systems when the compressor manufacturers approve R454C and R455A. For those who do not need to be below a GWP of 150 then R454A may be of interest.

charge new systems in 2017, but how quickly it will replace R410A will be determined by manufacturers. Three A2L blends, R452B, R454B and R455A, are also available as R410A replacements for new equipment and claim to off er better properties and performance than R32.
Medium temperature and chill applications
Although R134a has a medium GWP it can be replaced by a number of lower GWP refrigerants.
R450A and R513A are non-
fl ammable options with GWPs close to 600, and can be used as retrofi t or new equipment options.
R1234yf is being used instead of R134a in new car air conditioning systems and R1234ze is fi nding favour in new chillers.
There is already a good supply of a range of lower GWP alternatives and your refrigerant supplier should be able to give you good advice on the suitability of the products available for your applications.
