Transverse abdominis (TVA)


To maintain a stable, neutral spine position, it may help if the TVA is contracted. This is because of the support obtained from intra-abdominal pressure and tension via the thoracolumbar fascia. Consult your Level 3 resources for Anatomy and Physiology as a reminder of these mechanisms if necessary.
