The following sections outline specific nutrition monitoring and evaluation recommendations from the evidence-based nutrition practice guidelines (EBNPG). Definitions of the ratings that follow each recommenda-
tion are listed on page xii. Other abbreviations are listed on pages pages ix–xi.

Dietary intake can be assessed using such approaches as multiple 24-hour recalls or 3 nonconsecutive days of food records (ie, 2 weekdays and 1 weekend day) or multiple pass technology. Food and nutrient results can be analyzed using nutrient analysis software programs with complete nutrient data. • Monitor and evaluate at each visit the food and nutri- ent intake of adults with lipid disorders and compare to desired individual outcomes relevant to the nutri- tion diagnosis and intervention. This may include, but is not limited to: ○ food, beverage, and nutrient intake (energy intake; serving sizes; meal/snack pattern; fat intake; types of fat; cholesterol, carbohydrate, fiber, and micronu- trient intake; bioactive substances [alcohol intake, fiber, plant stanols and sterols, soy protein, psyl- lium, fish oil]);
○ food and nutrient administration (client’s experi- ence with food), such as current diet history, diet exclusions, cultural and religious preferences, eat- ing environment, and eating out;
○ medications and herbal supplement use (prescrip- tion and over-the-counter medications, herbal and complementary product use);
