Friday 11am: Start with breakfast at Svea (5236 N Clark St; 773-275-7738). Get the Viking Breakfast—eggs, Swedish pancakes with lingonberry jam, sausage, potatoes and toast. It’s a perfect intro to the historic Swedish neighborhood. 1pm: Go shopping! Outfit retro rooms with all the plaid trimmings at Brimfield (5219 N Clark St; 773- 271-3501), and find great reads at Women & Children First (5233 N Clark St; 773-769-9299) or records at Borderline Music (5351 N Clark St; 773-728-6582). 6pm: Paul Fehribach mixes classic recipes and modern dishes on Big Jones’s (5347 N Clark St; 773-275- 5725) Southern menu. Sip cocktails like a Sazerac or rum punch while grazing on house-made charcuterie. And you can’t go wrong with crispy catfish—lightly fried and served with grits and piccalilli.

Saturday 11am: Refuel with a latte made from locally roasted beans at Coffee Studio (5628 N Clark St; 773-271-7881). Snack on pastries, or grab a quiche, flatbreads or house-made ice cream. 1pm: Study the neighborhood’s history at the Swedish American Museum (5211 N Clark St; 773-728- 8111), which showcases objects dating back to a wave of Swedish immigration two centuries ago. Check out “Skål! Scandinavian Spirits,” which opens April 1. 6pm: Once you’ve learned about aquavit, head to Simon’s Tavern (5210 N Clark St; 773-878-0894).

The stalwart serves warm glogg in winter and a frozen kind in summer. Then, wander north to Little Bad Wolf (1541 W Bryn Mawr Ave; 773- 942-6399) for the Bad Burger, tacos and a charred Negroni.

Sunday 11am: Indulge in brunch at Cantina 1910 (5025 N Clark St; 773-506- 1910) and order inventive Mexican fare. Chili-spiced cinnamon rolls and roasted vegetable enchiladas are among the many highlights, while expertly made cocktails include red or green Bloody Marys. 1pm: Be a kid again and play Ms. Pac-Man at Replay Andersonville (5358 N Clark St; 773-654-1369). It’s partially a bar, so while you’re old enough to drink Revolution beers or bourbon, you’re never too old to love Donkey Kong. 7pm: End with the Neo-Futurists’ (5153 N Ashland Ave; 773-878- 4557) Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. The show, which has run for more than 20 years in Chicago and features 30 short plays in 60 minutes, is an energizing way to close out a full weekend.
