After about 10 years of work and $9.7 million, Northerly Island Park finally opened last September. The park offers beautiful lakefront views and a long, winding trail fit for bikers, walkers and joggers. This spring, a medley of grasses, plants and trees ought to fill in the somewhat barren landscape, at which point Northerly Island could be the coolest park in the city.

honor the top chefs, restaurants and bars around the country, and they return to Chicago again this year. The main event is on May 2, but if you don’t want to get dolled up in a gown or tux and shell out for tickets to the ceremony and gala, you don’t have to—many restaurants host special tastings and dinners to celebrate. Last year, Intro Chicago hosted several visiting chefs, including Ari Taymor and Jessica Largey, for special dinners. Various locations, dates, times and prices (

23Go green at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade
St. Patrick’s Day is arguably the biggest Chicago holiday—or at least the loudest. The river is dyed green and tens of thousands of onlookers fill the streets around Grant Park to watch as the parade of bagpipers, drum corps and Irish step dancers march by. The day only gets more raucous from there. Grant Park on Columbus Dr (
