NEWS THERE ARE NO LOO-
SERS AT LOYA 2015 One of the high points of the cleaning calendar came and went this month as the Loo of the Year Awards 2015 rolled into Solihull for another afternoon of entertainment and celebration of some of the UK and Ireland’s finest away-from-home toilet facilities.
Once again held at the prestigious St Johns Hotel, this year’s Loo of the Year Awards event saw more than 300 representatives from county councils, schools, pub chains, supermarkets, fast food emporiums, tourist centres and more in attendance, making it one of the most successful events yet.
And to further demonstrate the growing improvement in away-from- home washrooms across the UK, Awards Managing Director Mike Bone was delighted to reveal that there was an increase of 24% in new entrants, while more entries than ever achieved accreditation of Gold standard or above. He said: “This confirms that we are assisting the improvement of standards in our entrants’ toilets. Our grading assessment criteria have not reduced and Loo of the Year Awards remains ‘The Standard’ for away-from- home toilets in the UK.”
During the event, awards were presented for the best public toilets, changing facilities, accessible toilets, eco-friendly toilets, local authority facilities and more, with national winners from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland honoured, before the overall winners for each category were announced.
Proceedings came to a close with the presentation of the Overall Winner’s trophy –the golden toilet seat – which was this year awarded to We Clean Ltd, who join the likes of ASDA, McDonald’s, JD Wetherspoon and the Trafford Centre on the list of past winners.
On being presented with the Overall Winner’s award, Paul Concannon, We Clean Director, said: “I’m absolutely shocked to win the Overall Tork Loo of the Year Award for 2015. I think the award goes out to the 400 plus frontline cleaning staff that we have in our business. They are kings and queens

and they are what makes our business, so the award goes out to them.”
Mike Bone added: “We Clean first entered the Loo of the Year Awards in 2014 and won a number of awards. All of their entries were exceptionally clean and well maintained. The loos entered in 2015 were in various clients’ locations including the Heritage Motor Museum, Birmingham Town Hall, Birmingham Hippodrome, Selly Oak Trust School, the Birmingham Symphony Hall and prestigious office buildings.
“We Clean’s passion for delivering only cleaning-related services has demonstrated that focus can achieve exceptional results in toilet cleaning standards.”
Following a three-course meal, entertainment was provided by comedian and impressionist Bobby Davro, who entertained guests with plenty of jokes and an array of singing impersonations of the likes of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Tom Jones and even Shirley Bassey.
Speaking after the event, Mike Bone was full of praise for all of the entrants, as well as Award sponsors Tork, Clos- o-mat, Airdri, Bonasystems, Danfo, Kaivac, Evolve Security and Willings. He said: “My personal thanks are due to our loyal sponsors and supporters, who enable the Awards to continue, our entrants for their interest in what we can achieve for them, our inspectors
for their dedication, our hardworking Loo of the Year staff, and the excellent cleaning and FM media for their ongoing encouragement and support.”
