If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what would it have been?


When I was 18, I wanted a medical career, and had applied to study physiotherapy. However, looking back, my decision to stay in the business was absolutely the right one for me. ■

Having started in the London market as a direct liability broker in 1983, Eva Taylor began underwriting property and casualty treaty in 1998, joining TransRe in 1999 in the London property team.


She was responsible for inwards retro cat and risk business. She


opened up the TransRe Bermuda branch in 2010 and continues to manage the retrocessional portfolio.


Why did you choose to work in this industry initially?


I took a summer job at Willis Faber, the broking house, between school and university. One of the directors showed me around the 1958 Lloyd’s building and it was one of the most exciting and vibrant places I had ever seen. I asked HR if I could get a permanent job and started out as a broker.


What has been the highlight of your career so far?


The highlight of my career has definitely been when TransRe sent me from London to Bermuda five years ago to open up our branch. It was a great opportunity, and it has been an amazing experience.


What has been the biggest challenge you have encountered?


Opening the Bermuda office is my career highlight, and also one of my biggest challenges. Many of my new responsibilities were unfamiliar but the change has been exciting and I am still learning so much.
