Reeva Bakhshi is the chief financial officer for Hiscox Re, the combined reinsurance business across the Hiscox Group, with business underwritten out of London, Bermuda and Paris and encompassing the Kiskadee ILS platform.


Bakhshi joined Hiscox in 2006 and has held various roles across


the Hiscox Group. In 2008 she was appointed finance director of Hiscox Guernsey and Global Kidnap and Ransom, serving as managing director of Hiscox ASM responsible for introducing Latin American private client kidnap and ransom business to the group.


Bakhshi became a Hiscox Partner in 2009 and in 2011 took on the


role of finance director and head of claims for Hiscox Europe, where she ran the finance and claims teams in the Hiscox Europe organisation across six countries. In 2014 she relocated from London to Bermuda and assumed the role of CFO of Hiscox Re. Prior to Hiscox, she ran the financial and regulatory reporting for ACE European group in London. She is a qualified chartered accountant.


Why did you choose to work in this industry initially?


I actually fell into this industry on leaving public practice. What I saw was an area of the financial services world anchored in providing a tangible service to businesses and consumers at a point that they needed security and support; the ability to play a part in providing


I have been fortunate to have experienced many highlights and it is hard to pinpoint just one. The most recent has been the experience of navigating the rapidly evolving reinsurance market and working to build a third party capital platform positioned alongside our longstanding traditional reinsurance business. The current change in environment provides an opportunity to examine how our industry operates and challenge how we can respond to those changes. It’s an exciting time to be in reinsurance.


What has been the biggest challenge you have encountered?


All of my career highlights have been rooted in big challenges. I have been at Hiscox for almost nine years and in that time I have operated across the spectrum of our business; moving across disciplines and geographies, each bringing the challenges of learning new products, distribution channels and forming strong relationships with teams to deliver results. ■
