WHY YOU SHOULD REGULARLY REVIEW YOUR MORTGAGE

If you already have a mortgage and have not had it reviewed for a while your monthly mortgage repayments could be higher than they need to be.

Often people have their mortgage on a Standard Variable Rate with their lenders. These rates are determined by the lender and with interest rates being so low, borrowers with fixed rates that are coming to an end are sometimes letting their mortgage automatically revert to Standard Variable Rates without comparing this with a new fixed term rate which could save them on their monthly repayments.

Standard Variable Rates can rise or fall at the lenders discretion so although they offer flexibility, they offer no certainty. Whilst this suits many people it isn’t always ideal. The benefit of a fixed rate mortgage is you have consistent repayments but you are tied in for an amount of years.

The decision not to review your mortgage before it switches automatically to a Standard Variable Rate could be costing you extra ££££’s every month. A mortgage adviser can establish whether or not it is worth considering switching your mortgage, and this doesn’t necessarily mean switching to a new lender. Your adviser will be able to negotiate with your current lender as well as research across the UK mortgages market for competitive rates and advise on the best options for your circumstances.

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on the mortgage.
