REGIONAL NEWS CONTINUED FROM PAGE 35

SOUTH WEST John Balkwill Email: southwest@xkec.co.uk

SOMEONE TOLD ME recently that they thought the South West of England was ‘Geographically Challenging’! They were right about that and due to the length of the SW region with some members living as far as 200 miles apart, we have two separate breakfast meets.

For those of us living ‘down in the sticks’ towards the far end of the region, we meet once every two months at The Arundel Arms, Lifton, Devon, PL16 0AA.

Due to the volume of

traffic and roadworks on the A30 we opt to have our breakfast meets here on Sunday, the next being on the 16th October. Members generally arrive from 09:30

onwards, and we have a good old natter, and admire each others glistening cars in the car park before our ‘better halves’ round us up and steer us towards the breakfast table in the hotel where we continue our – sometimes riotous discussions. The

courteous staff lay on an excellent breakfast in the comfortable surroundings there. On the 4th Saturday of each month, the South-South-West breakfast meeting takes place at the Fleet Air Arm Museum at Yeovilton, BA22 8HT. This is generally suited to those members living further “up country”!

The next meeting here will be held on the 24 September, and is always a popular

Four of the best: And from below left, Gill and Ian, David, Tony and John enjoying an early proper Yorkshire breakfast at Masham Market Square

WE HAD FOUR cars at our first meeting in Masham on Saturday 30 July, two XK8 Convertibles, an XKR Convertible and a 4.2 Coupé. Parking in the Market Place was a bit difficult to say the least, but following a proper Yorkshire breakfast we managed to line the cars up for a photo on a nearby field. Much discussion took place, mainly about golf, football and venues for future meetings. Because the area is so large we may move the

meetings around. Various suggestions were made, ranging

from Tocketts Mill near Saltburn to Rudding Park near Harrogate and the Oil Can Cafe at Hepworth on the A616 south of Huddersfield. Anyone is welcome to join us, watch out for dates of future meetings and venues on the Forum.

venue with a good selection of XKs turning up. Try to be there before 10:00. If you have recently acquired a Jaguar XK, and you are new to the XKEC, do please try to come along to either of these meets. You will always be made very welcome by fellow like minded members, and you might even pick up a tip or two about looking after, and driving these magnificent cars!
