From the air: Aerial view of some of our XKs stopped at the hill top above Marais Vernier, inset top, the newly acquired drone, inset left, a happy looking Cyrille with his conquering heroes

une 25 of this year, 12 cars (and their owners!) turned up for the second French and British XK/XK8 Jaguar Drivers’ road trip. The stage was set for “Honfleur to Rouen” in

Normandy, following the banks of the Seine River. Unlike last year, our guest of honour was . . . the sun! We left the coastal city of Honfleur to unleash our cats through the “Boucles de la Seine Normande” regional Park. Local villages, forest drives, hilly roads and panoramic views of the Marais Vernier (Vernier swamp) were our locations for the first part of the day.

Beyond the ride, it was a great opportunity to meet strangers that shared the same passion (love?) for the same car! Tips, advices and of course some marketing pitch to join the XKEC were at the core of our conversations. After our first hill top stop – just enough time to take some aerial photos of the convoy thanks to a newly acquired XKEC drone! – we turned our V8 engines on to reach Jumièges

clock was ticking – cold beer was waiting for us at the finish line – we crossed the Seine river (twice actually) on a ferry boat, not sure if it was for us or to please a newly wed bride that shared the river ride but the ferry boat pilot decided to make a “doughnut” at full speed with the horn blowing continuously, it was hilarious! On arrival after approximately 120 km of

Abbey that was established by William the Conqueror (you know, the famous French warrior that turned England into a French Province in 1066…).

It was a kind of pilgrimage and homage with our British branded cars lined up in the village town centre! Bearing in mind the

cross country driving and a nice sun tan for the cabriolet drivers, we were greeted by the owner of the newly opened Jaguar dealership in the city of Rouen, an XE, XF and F-Pace were lined up in downtown Rouen for a family shot. We concluded the drive with a dinner in a local pub (in a pure English style). The conclusion was clear for all of us, let’s do it again in 2017. . . but we had only one regret, nobody turned up from Great Britain (though two UK registered RH drive XKs attended)! Could that be the first of the Brexit effect?
