Concept: From a 1986 Daimler XJS to the most recent a 2007 C-XF

AMONGST THE NEW cars now on display are a number of fascinating concept cars, many that haven’t been on public display since the year of their debut and one which has never been seen before! The Trust owns around 20 design concepts or one-off engineering concept cars, the oldest being the Daimler XJS concept from 1986 and the most recent being the 2007 C-XF which was the design ‘teaser’ for the Jaguar XF that was launched in Frankfurt later that year.

Some of these concepts, including the XJ40 Estate car and 2-door coupé, the Daimler Corsica and the R-D6, were already on display in the Collections Centre but these have now been joined by: ● The XJ42 Convertible from 1988 (the very first Jaguar ‘F-type’ design). This has never been on display before and the Trust also has its sister car, the XJ41 which is a coupé version with removeable targa panels. ● The F-type design concept that was unveiled at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show ● The R-Coupé concept also from 2001 – which was a modern interpretation of the Series 2 XJ-C models from the 1970s ● The 2005 ALC (Advanced Lightweight Coupé) which was the precursor to the XK (X150) unveiled later that year ● The C-XF from 2007 as mentioned above.

Events Review

With 70 cars now in the Jaguar store and a further seven Daimlers and Lanchesters that will shortly be added to the first floor of the Collections Centre, as well as the eight sports and racing cars in the Jaguar zone of the main museum, there has never been a better time to pay a visit!

The events season starts to get busier from May onwards and Trust cars have been out and about both at home and abroad over the last two months. First up, the Jaguar Breakfast Meet inaugurated in April has now become a regular fixture at Gaydon on the first Saturday of each month. The format so far has been similar with the Jaguar owners arriving at around 9:30am for breakfast followed by a short talk and an exclusive tour round the Jaguar floor of the Collections Centre. A different theme is chosen each month and for the 4 June Breakfast Meet, the chosen theme was the Jaguar E-type and again, four examples from the Trust’s collection were lined up outside for

visitors to admire. These covered all three series and included the very last E-type built – a 1974 V12 OTS, the last of the 50 commemorative models that were all finished in black bar one! These were joined by a number of fine examples brought along by their proud owners that were also given pole position in front of the Collections Centre. Most recently, the theme for the 2 July gathering was the Jaguar XJ40 – celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. As this event happened on the day that the Collections Centre reopened following the floor refurbishment, it was decided to leave the Trust’s examples of this model in the line-up of other generations of XJ on display.
