SECTOR FOCUS: SME’S

How to find the right tools for the job

NICOLE HUMPHREY, (pictured) Founder of Plymouth-based Direct Talent Source, cites cost, resource, time and knowledge as just some of the problems faced by SME’s in the South West when it comes to recruitment, be that a specialist senior hire or a school-leaver.

In her recent experience, with the advent of social media and all things digital, there are so many options to reach out to a wider audience of candidates rather than using an agency or advertising in the local paper. But, how many businesses take

advantage of these tools? Or know what they are, or even have the time to use them? There are many cost-effective

ways to recruit now, free online (or sponsored) advertising and CV search functions on Indeed, sharing updates and contacting potential candidates on LinkedIn and Twitter, local job pages on Facebook, and even Instagram is becoming a worthwhile source of candidates for some roles. These are just a few of the options that can bolster a recruiting campaign and enhance an employer brand. These do take time to manage, but it's certainly worth investing in them if you

want to avoid large fees. You can even start to build a database of candidates for future roles. If you would like free advice about any of these options, Nicole would be happy to help. Nicole founded DTS in 2015, to offer a new way of recruiting to smaller businesses. Those who'd love the option of having a dedicated internal recruiter with the flexibility to call on that expertise only when required and without agency fees. James Twine, Partner at

Wolferstans, said: "Nicole has worked closely with us to help us source some difficult hires, with specialist skillsets. Her business model is hugely cost effective compared to agency fees, but without

sacrificing quality of candidate. She's supported us at every step of the process, and her honest and flexible way of working, keeping us constantly updated and managing our expectations is incredibly refreshing."
