New EM340 3 Phase Energy Meter

Carlo Gavazzi introduces the EM340 3 phase energy meter, the EM300 Series which utilises innovations such as touchscreen technology. This makes standard user opera- tions such as page scrolling, programming and parameter checks not only simpler but faster; as well as easier to read. This avoids any mechanical issues normally associated with using traditional keypads. The EM340 three- phase energy meter with 3x8 digit backlit LCD data display & integrated keypad; suited to active energy meter- ing and cost allocation in appli- cations up to 65A (direct connection) and dual tariff management. The meter is optionally provided with pulse output, RS485 Modbus port or M-bus port and is only 3 DIN wide. www.carlogavazzi.co.uk

Megger Delivers Safer Testing For MV Cables

Megger’s new DAC-30 test and diagnostic system for medium voltage cables is the first test set of its kind with the power source and partial discharge (PD) coupler

single unit.

Because of this unique form of construction, no live parts, other than the cable under test, are accessible during testing, which guarantees the highest possible level of operator safety.

The DAC-30 is a fully iso- lated DAC (damped AC volt- age) partial discharge test set with a peak voltage of 30 kV. It is ideally suited for performing quality control checks on newly installed cables in line with the IEEE 400.4 standard, and also for condition monitoring on older cables as an aid to preventing unplanned outages. A versatile test and diagnostic system for MV cables up to 16 km in length, including the 10, 11 and 20 kV cables com- monly found in the UK and Ireland, the DAC-30 identi- fies, evaluates and locates partial discharge in cable insulation & accessories. This activity is a reliable guide to incipient faults and is

regarded as one of the best & mo0st effective “early warning” indicators of insula- tion deterioration.

integrated into a

An important benefit of the DAC-30 is that the frequency of the test voltage is close to normal power frequency. This means that partial discharge activity can be accurately eval- uated and will closely reflect the behaviour of the cable in normal operation. In addition, the decaying amplitude of the test voltage makes it is easy to determine the partial discharge inception voltage (PDIV), which is the voltage at which PD activity starts, and the par- tial discharge extinction volt- age (PDEV), which is the voltage at which PD activity stops after the test. www.megger.com

Series with the 404A22SG1 a 4cylinder 2.2 litre engine

Products & Services Bringing gas power to the 400

P

erkins has brought its gas engine expertise to the small engine sector with the 404A-22SG1. The 4 cylinder 2.2 litre engine is designed for electric power applications and is powered by liquid petroleum gas (LPG), a mix of propane and butane. The first gas-powered option in the proven 400 Series range, the engine is ideal for power generation applications in unregulated gas territories.

Based on the core 400 Series engine, with its proven track record of reliability and durability, the 404A-22SG1 runs at 1500 or 1800 rpm and produces 20 or 23 kVA of prime power respectively. It features a 12v electrical system and uses the same electrical ancillaries and alternator interface as our diesel engines. Customer benefits include enhanced fuel security, excellent fuel consumption, and a 1,000 hour service interval in standard configuration. The 404A-22SG1 is supplied as an ElectropaK, with full cooling pack and air cleaner.

FLIR’S new imaging, allinone Multimeter for the safe and effective Inspection of equipment

For generator set applications, the ElectropaK™ offers a fully engineered generator for applications up to 2265 kVA. The package comes complete and ready to run with: engine, radiator, charge cooler, air cleaner, piping, hoses and mounting feet. The range covers the 400, 1100, 1300, 2000, and 4000 series diesel engines. These generator drive engine packages provide clean, cost-effective, prime or standby power in a high power density package. ElectropaKs™ have a fixed speed of 1500rpm or 1800rpm. The engines comply with all major international emissions standards. www.perkins.com

Lewden’s UniBox ideal for T

he new FLIR DM284 is unlike any other multimeter on the market. It combines an 18-function industrial, True RMS digital multimeter with FLIR’s infrared guided measurement technology (IGM) which quickly steers the user to the precise location of the temperature anomaly at a safe distance from the electrical panel or cabinet.

The DM284 is the latest member of the IGM family of instruments which not only facilitate quicker troubleshooting but also make inspection more thorough. IGM puts the electrical problem into context, clearly visualising temperature differences. This is made possible by the built-in FLIR Lepton® thermal 160 x 120 pixels micro-camera core that is now at the heart of a number of imaging instruments for the trades.

When scanning panels, connectors and wires, this micro-camera helps users pinpoint potential problems without requiring any direct contact with the test site. Once IGM has identified an issue the current, voltage and other advanced functions on the FLIR DM284 are then employed to verify and confirm findings. A built-in work light and a laser pointer assist in poorly lit environments and pinpoint the location of the problem in the thermal image. Thermal and electrical thermocouple measurements can be viewed simultaneously and three thermal image colour palettes are selectable via the instrument’s simple user interface. The FLIR DM284 makes test and measurement quick, easy and effective and its combined capabilities also reduce the number of tools that electricians need to carry to conduct a thorough inspection. IP54 rated and drop-tested to 3m, the FLIR DM284 carries FLIR’s industry leading 10-year product warranty. www.flir.co.uk

DECEMBER ‐ JANUARY 2017 UK POWER NEWS

harsh environments Lewden Palazzoli has introduced the UniBox (Universal Boxes) range of aluminium junction boxes for use in the harshest of environments. Manufactured from aluminium alloy which is highly corrosion-resistant, the back box and cover of the UniBox enclosures are treated with ecological, anti-corrosion passivation with fluoro-zirconium and then finished with hot polymerised, scratch-resistant, non-toxic polyester paint. The watertight cover and integrated gasket guarantees the IP66/IP67 rating that ensures protection against complete, continuous submersion in water and a ‘dust tight’ seal. The Unibox enclosures have external earth connections and are available with external dimensions ranging from 100mm x 100mm x 59mm up to 410mm x 315mm x 150mm and can be rail mounted horizontally or vertically. The operating temperature is -40ºC to +100ºC and the boxes have been engineered to conform with IEC/EN 60670-1. These small, lightweight enclosures have been manufactured to the highest standards to provide maximum corrosion resistance and high-impact strength.
