Chooses GE’s Fleet360* Total Plant
Solutions To ‘Future Proof’ Two UK
Power Plants
Uniper UK Ltd. has selected GE’s Power Services to provide plant equipment upgrades and advanced digital solutions aiming to boost the performance of its Enfield and Grain combined-cycle power plants in the high- demand regions of greater London and the southeast of England.
The upgrades are part of GE’s new Fleet360* services platform of total power plant solutions and include a full suite of digital, plant and gas turbine solutions. The contract also includes the first order for GE’s current Operations Optimization software on a GT26 gas turbine. Uniper’s two, new 400- megawatt (MW) and 1,200- MW stations, which consist of four GT26 single-shaft combined cycles, will be upgraded with a full suite of digital, plant and gas turbine solutions.
The upgrades reflect a broader trend, as European utilities seek to modernize their combined- cycle power plants to increase key performance, deliver competitive costs and meet all additional environmental & additional flexibility requirements. This latest contract marks the first installation of GE’s Operations Optimization software on a GT26 gas turbine, giving Uniper the capability to monitor and predict all key plant performance indicators. "GE’s Operations
Optimization software to give UK plant operators a much greater real-time oversight into the condition of all their generation equipment,” comments Paul McElhinney, president & CEO of GE’s Power Services.

Secures Coal, Gas And Renewables Framework With EDF Energy
Amec Foster Wheeler has secured a framework agreement to provide engineering consultancy services to EDF Energy’s Coal, Gas and Renewables (CGR) division, to support its fleet of coal plants, gas- fired (CCGT) power station and gas storage sites. Under the agreement, the company will also support EDF Energy Renewables’ UK wind farms.
Work begins on the Millerhill Energy Centre in Midlothian, Edinburgh
The agreement provides for a construction period of 30 months, and the start of the activity is scheduled for 2019, followed by a term of full operation for the next 25 years.
The plant will treat about 135,000 tonnes of household waste annually and an additional 20,000 tonnes of commercial waste. It will also generate enough electricity each year to meet the energy demand of approximately 32,000 households.
FCC Environment signed a £ 142m contract to design, finance, build and operate the Millerhill Energy and Resource Recovery Centre (RERC), Midlothian, located outside Edinburgh.
March 15th - 16th
The CGR framework has a broad spectrum which covers operations and maintenance, key outage support, technical services, plant modifications and enhancements, new build and decommissioning. Dawn James, Vice President for Generation Services at Amec Foster Wheeler’s Clean Energy business, said:
