Designers Support for Heat Network Code of Practice

ADVANCED DIESEL ENGINEERING SUPPLIES MANCHESTER METRO LINK

The West Yorkshire-based company, ADVANCED DIESEL ENGINEERING, recently supplied two modular housing units, one of them a modular switchgear housing, to be used on the city of Manchester’s advanced Metro link upgrade.

For nearly 20 years Advanced Ltd has been supplying its diesel generators for standby operations, emergency backup power and prime power operation.

he Vital Energi design department has been demonstrating its support for the district heating industry by successfully passing their Heat Network Code of Practice (HNCOP) training and joining the CIBSE Certification’s Heat Network Consultant Register, reports Gordon Coates.

The seven candidates, who are a mixture of senior designers and associate directors, have been extensively tested on their knowledge and understanding of the Heat Networks Code of Practice and their place on the Consultant Register means that clients can have confidence that they will apply the highest standards of design, specification and installation to their projects. Paul Kay, Building Services & Design Director for Vital Energi, helped to draft the new code of practice and explains its importance to the industry. He reports: “Essentially, the Code of Practice is a blueprint for getting District Heating projects right, which is vital if we want customers and clients to have confidence in these technologies.

“I feel it is important that all companies involved in delivering district heating networks to publicly show their support for the Code of Practice and in qualifying for the Consultant Register, our designers are sending a clear message that they are committed to raising standards industry wide.” As part of Vital Energi’s commitment to the Heat Network code of practice, the

company has said it will ensure that all designers at senior level or above will undertake the HNCOP training and join the CIBSE Consultant Register. On December 6th, 2016, Vital Energi reported that its biomass project at the Eden Campus at Guardbridge was officially commissioned, making the University of St Andrews the UK’s first carbon neutral university for energy usage. The £25 million plant on the east side of the former paper mill site produces hot water from a biomass boiler using clean, natural fuels from sustainable sources across Scotland, which is pumped underground four miles to St Andrews where it heats University buildings. In early December the energy centre also won a major national award at the Scottish Green Energy Awards 2016 defeating strong competition from across Scotland to take the prestigious Sustainable Development Award. The project is funded by an £11 million loan from the Scottish Partnership for Regeneration in Urban Centres (SPRUCE) Fund, a joint Scottish Government and European Regional Development Fund initiative, managed by Amber Infrastructure Limited; a £10 million grant from the Scottish Funding Council, with the remaining £4 million coming from the University.

most successful light rail systems in the UK operating in the UK.

The Greater Manchester Metrolink network has proved to be one of the most suc- cessful light rail systems in the UK, carrying around 27.5 million passengers every year.

With a large stock of diesel generators from 11 to 3300kVA, the company specialises in the acoustic treatment and containerisation of medium-to-high power silenced and weatherproof generator systems. The company's premises in West

Yorkshire accommodate itshead office, manufacturing & fabrication facility, warehouse and test area. Greater Manchester’s Metrolink network has proved to be one of the

Since 2007, MPT has been working with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to develop what has grown to become the UK’s largest light rail scheme, the Manchester Metrolink.

Following the successful delivery of the 14.5km Manchester Airport Line extension in 2014, to date MPT has now installed over 60km of new track and 57 new stops across the whole network.

Woolwich Energy Centre gets AdBlue Tanker Delivery

D

ecember 8th, 2016: Agriemach finished the commissioning of its AdBlue Remote Fill Point Cabinet and Dual Contained delivery pipe work at the Woolwich Energy Centre on the Royal Arsenal Riverside Development in London. A spokesman for the company commented: “As the day light faded, our tanker full of AdBlue arrived ready to test the system for a delivery which had to be made at the kerbside, connected to our remote fill point cabinet located behind the weather louvre on the ground floor, and then up to our fully bunded bulk AdBlue tank on the first floor.

“Thanks to the live level gauge built into the remote fill point cabinet, the delivery driver had full visualisation of the tank level, and all failsafe built in just in case of an unforeseen event.” The AdBlue delivered to this energy centre is being used with an Agriemach SCR, Selective Catalytic Reduction System designed to reduce the NOx levels on the 1.2MW Jenbacher engine installed there. This SCR system has been built to bring NOx levels down to 20mg/Nm3@5%O2, along with the added benefit of Carbon-Monoxide Conversion, making the exhaust gas emissions from this energy centre much cleaner.
