ender UK, the electrical safety specialist company, is working on a project to deliver and install equipment in 18 operating theatres. The landmark £335 million redevelopment of the Royal Liverpool University Hospital will create the largest all single-patient-room hospital in England when it is completed in mid-2017. It is part of the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. Carillion is the main contractor for construction of the new hospital and awarded the contract to Bender UK for Isolated Power Systems (IPS) and Uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS) with the touch screen control (TCP) systems.
Bender UK is also working with Crown House Technologies which is managing the installation and commissioning of mechanical and electrical services at the new hospital, to deliver advanced power protection. It must also provide sufficient capacity to ‘future proof’ the hospital for the anticipated expansion of power requirements.
Managing Director Gareth Brunton explains: “Our vast experience of hospital electrical systems and a proven track record in delivering large complex projects means that Bender UK is able to make a significant contribution to the healthcare sector in terms of meeting challenging deadlines and adding value at the specification and installation stages.”
Construction of the new 12-storey hospital alongside the existing building on Prescot Street began back in February 2014. When completed, the complex will contain 646 beds and individual ensuite rooms, spread across 23 wards, a 40-bed critical care unit and 18 operating theatres.
The existing Royal Liverpool University
Hospital is the largest hospital in Merseyside. Each year the hospital provides care and treatment for around 93,500 emergency patients and the Trust sees more than 117,000 a day case and inpatients and over 6000,000 outpatient’s attendances. Once the new Royal Liverpool University
Hospital is finished, the existing old hospital will be demolished. In its place, there are plans to develop the Liverpool Health Campus, which will consist of 200,000 square feet of space, attracting life sciences, biomedical research companies and health organisations.
Once the project is completed the service and technical support team at Bender UK is tasked with providing annual maintenance, 24/7 technical support and a rapid response call out service 365-days-of-the-year to ensure the continuous supply of power to the critical care areas.
